King I Divine making 2 hip hop beats on the mpc 1000 ("Post Experiment ft D. Julien)

Hardware or Software??? by kingidivine`

Wus good ya’ll…King I Divine here to weigh in on one of the biggest questions in hip hop production….hardware or software? Well, the simple answer to that question is, use whichever one fits your style of production better.

I started off making beats in 2004 using Reason. At the time I began producing, I had an office job sitting behind a computer all day long. So, naturally, I decided to use a computer- based program to make my beats. During those years of beat making, I swore that programs like Reason and Garage Band were the greatest things around. I had never owned or even touched a drum machine before, but all of my favorite producers used them; so I started to feel like I wasn’t a “real” producer because I wasn’t using hardware like a MPC or the SP1200. Out of curiosity I would go on YouTube and watch all theses dudes bang out on the MPC.

So I finally got one. I must say that using the MPC1000 definitely makes me feel more connected to the beat. The way the drums knock out of the MPC is simply amazing. Now, you can eq your drums out of a computer- based program to try and get the same knock, but it hasn’t worked for me. All in all, I would encourage any producer to try both ways of producing and to choose the that is the better fit for you. As long as you’re comfortable and have a smooth work flow you should be able to enjoy creating music. Whether you use hardware or software, as long as it’s hot, it doesn’t really matter….
Peace
